The Sisters of Mary

You are more than name and title

More than post

and seat of honour

Travel by your moral compass

On the sacred journey home

Good and evil- both are waiting

for the train, by His grace

Ticket comes as per your karma

On the platform of life

     ***

I once knew a girl   named Mary

She was just

like you and me

She had a great  desire

To love and serve humanity

She searched and searched   for the way

To break mummy’s heart and fly away

A tiny family, was not for her

Worldly lures  she would not obey

     ***

So Mary went ahead and followed call

Sought to learn the Dharma way of life

Went to training centre, sacrificing all

Aspiring for a life and conduct white as snow

The teacher  brought her close under his wing

Reassuring her ‘come close’ her confidence to win

Then touched her,  did not desist, did not renounce

    ***

Shocked and cold   Mary did not stay

She ran away   I don’t know where

Much too hurt to try again

What happened to the teacher, is unknown

I don’t want to see a wall of stone

I don’t like the sound of dragging feet

I don’t want to do the spiritual bypass,

So I cry, I cry

For the sisters of Mary

  1. I have listened to your song now for the 10th or so time
I have cried for the 10th or so time listening
And only at the 10th or so time realised
This might not be the song of Mary we knew together and watched her grow?
This might be the song of Mary of many decades ago?
Who fled the centre of your tonight’s stage.
    Never to come again.

The song for all the Marys who stayed and suffered in silence through decades.

And those who had left and had suffered in silence.
And those yet to come and to suffer.
    In silence.

The grand design of the fairy like forest
As the backdrop of moral decay.
Not dealt with for almost a century halved.
    It focuses my mind.

    It breaks my heart.
